Racial Profiling

Paper Summary:

This paper looks at several cases and examples of racial profiling including security checks, traffic enforcement, rap music control, and media bias. It argues that racial profiling benefits no one and needs to be eradicated in order to build a more just and tolerant society.

"In addition, the media has a stronghold on our country. Incidents concerning racism are now receiving a lot of media attention. Twenty-five years ago, a group of police officers beating on a black person would not have gotten as much media attention as the Rodney King incident. The mainstream media continues to cover police racial profiling, while it has generally failed to acknowledge its own practice of media racial profiling. And when it has, the results have been more cover-up than coverage. We also need more African Americans as well as Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans behind the scenes of television studios and newspapers; this will project having a much broader outlook on different races and genders."
