"Response to Public Reaction Against Closing O.L. Slaton The political process can seem too intimidating to get involved in. There is a contemporary kind of anathema regarding getting out there and getting involved in politics. A popular sentiment of laziness and feelings of inability to act in the face of the system dominate many people's reaction to personal involvement in the political process. I recently had a series of experiences that shook me from this political complacency when I attended a series of school board meetings in Lubbock, Texas and researched the background of the issue that was being discussed and argued at those meetings."
