"Paper Title Psychoactive drugs are chemical substances which alter brain function, and thus cause changes in behavior, consciousness, awareness and personality. Psychoactive drugs fall under a wide variety of categories. There are hallucinogens, stimulants, depressants, psychedelics, tranquilizers and narcotics. As these drugs come in such a wide variety, they can affect the brain in numerous ways. Once a person has had an experience with these sorts of drugs, the memory is often very difficult to let go of, and they frequently crave to repeat their first experience with the drug, which tends to lead towards addiction. Psychoactive drugs create their different effects on a person through the diverse ways they affect the brain. Some drugs impact the brain pre-synaptically or post-synaptically, or modify the axons themselves."
