Essay (General) # 65312 :: Protests of the Vietnam War
A discussion on the protests that occurred during the Vietnam War.
Written in 2005; 1,342 words; 3 sources; MLA; $ 45.95
Paper Summary:
This research paper talks about the actions of the American people during the Vietnam War and focuses mainly on their protests. It describes the actions of the Students for a Democratic Society, the deaths at Kent State University and how they affected the nation. The paper continues to discuss protests made by celebrities, David Miller the first man to publicly burn his draft card and how some escaped war by fleeing to Canada. Also mentioned are the protests at Harvard University.
From the Paper:
"What kind of system is it that justifies the United States or any country seizing the destinies of the Vietnamese people and using them callously for its own purposes?" said Paul Potter, president of the Students for a Democratic Society during the Vietnam war (Dougan 72). Every American had a personal opinion about the United States involvement in Vietnam. Some people supported the war, while many others publicly expressed their antiwar beliefs. Protests took place in a variety of venues, though most demonstrations were held on the campuses of politically aware college students. By joining the antiwar effort, many people had to accept the punishment for failing to support their country. When protests ended violently or crowds got restless, participants were sometimes arrested and put in jail. Burning a draft card could also earn a protestor jail time. In their minds, the consequences were minute compared to the destruction the war was causing."
