"Process-Supporting information technology has been regarded as an important step in attempts to improve the quality and safety of health care. One of the technologies that has drawn attention is clinical decision support systems (CDSSs). This is an information system that is designed to improve clinicians' decision making. Another technology to help improve healthcare is computerized physician order entry (CPOE) which will act as a means for reducing medication errors. There is an ongoing debate whether these information technologies have really improved the quality and safety of health care. There are reports from places in this field that have applied these technologies and have been successful. On the other hand, some reports have shown specific failures introduced by the these systems. (Berg 2005). This paper will explore how process-supporting information technology has attempted to improve the quality of health care and where it has been successful and where it has shown some failures."
