"A pressure sore is also known as a pressure ulcer or bed sore. A pressure sore is a "localized area of cellular damage resulting from direct pressure on the skin causing ischemia, or shearing or friction forces causing mechanical stress on the tissues" (Clay, 2000, p. 45). Prevention of bed sores should be basic for nursing, yet it is not just a widespread problem but is one that is rapidly increasing.
