Both Alexander Pope and Daniel Defoe approached women differently but with equal passion in their literature. One might say of Pope too that on the whole his poetry suggests he has discovered a woman's world--the world of female portraiture and feminized mock-epic and feminine "Gothic" sensibility--but not women.
