↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper examines the premise that the media-law enforcement association is subjective by the relevant positions of reporters and law enforcement officers, their insights of one another, coverage of crime and law enforcement in the media, as well as the growing popularity of public information officers in law enforcement agencies. It attempts to answer the subsequent question of what is the character and measure of exchange in the modern media-law enforcement association and what it involves for public information.

From the Paper:

"In line with a researcher, who studied media impact on the judicial system, "despite television' s fictional nature, heavy viewers rely on it to form mental images of police and even the safety of their own neighborhoods." Law enforcement agencies, in the meantime, highlight their crime-fighting purpose and persuade media coverage of offenses. In San Diego, in a case study, it was revealed that law enforcement agencies, as well as the media labored in concert to endorse violent law enforcement in a subordinate class, high-crime district. Enhancing the "crime-fighting" picture supplements law enforcement's power at the same time as justifying police expenditures for police defense."
