Plato and Society

"Plato's Republic was written in the first half of the fifth century B.C., and within Book VIII Plato specifically speaks of democracy, and how it will be manifested throughout time. Plato's theories in this circumstance relate directly to the concept that society may be just or unjust, depending on the level that society has fallen to. While this theory in philosophy has received attention over time, it is one element of Plato's work that is often ignored, or contended to be laced with falsehoods. However, Plato's theories of society are significant to the modern social structure, and should be weighted with more concern. Plato's work contributed both to the philosophy of his time, and to modern philosophical thought through his reasoning that still is applicable to society. Within Book VIII of The Republic, Plato laid out a formation of society that consisted of five layers. "
