Plato and Feminism

# 42835
Plato and Feminism
A discussion of whether Plato could be considered a feminist through a review of his work and his treatment of women.
2,775 words (approx. 11.1 pages) | 10 sources | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper will prove that Plato did have some fundamental ideas of feminism within his philosophy for his time, although these ideas themselves were inconsistent within his works. Thus, I hesitate to say that Plato was a feminist by our current late twentieth century standards. He was not. Part one of the paper will discuss Plato's so-called feminism, while part two will illustrate the inconsistencies in his treatment of women.
