Paper Summary:
This paper examines the sad case of Peter Straus, a young man suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after the Vietnam War. In particular, the paper examines Straus' situation by using the theoretical tools provided by Sigmund Freud and Carl Rogers. After reviewing the available literature, the paper concludes that Freud's theories offer a more comprehensive explanation of Straus's predicament than does Rogers.
From the Paper:
"The Case of Peter Straus is a very interesting one. This paper explores his situation by focusing upon two features of his character and then analyzing those features using the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Rogers, respectively. In the paper that follows, an assessment is made of each man's theories, to determine which of the two comes the nearest to successfully explaining Peter's behavior. Without further ado, then, it is to a discussion of Peter Straus - as seen through the eyes of Freud and Rogers - which this paper now turns."
