Paper Summary:

This paper is a personal account by a nurse that illustrates how a major change was due to social learning.
The context for this specific change is analysed and the paper further discusses the concept of changing intentionally. Some of the theories behind changing and what can motivate it are mentioned.

From the Paper:

"The process by which people intentionally change is complex. This is because one force acts upon the person in one direction, and another force in the opposite direction. People can be motivated towards intentional change (Pilkington, 2000). This paper will discuss a major change I have experienced in my nursing practice. The change involved a decision and working towards excellent practice because of social learning. The context for this change was care for a patient on a palliative care unit. It was a case of planned change based on a realization of my knowledge deficits, a decision to improve, and developing a plan to improve."
