1,350 words (approx. 5.4 pages) | 3 sources | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper explains that the Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) and the Critical Path Method (CPM) are unique project management tools that have revolutionized the project management industry, as well as changed the way in which all organizations execute projects. In general terms, PERT and CPM are used to predict project costs as well as completion time requirements and PERT is normally associated solely with time constraints while CPM examines the cost versus time transaction within the context of projects.

From the Paper:

"PERT was first developed for or by the United States Navy as a method for the planning and execution of the Polaris missile program on its submarines (Frame & Davidson The 18). Since this very limited application, PERT has come to be utilized for project management planning, spanning most industries."
