# 66879
Origen's Theory
Examines the famous theory, 'The First Treatise' by third century theologian, Origen.
1,188 words (approx. 4.8 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

Origen's theory was developed on two major principals which were the nature of a merciful and loving God and that every rational being is granted its freedom to be restored to God. The paper shows that the first inspiration that guided Origen's theory was his belief in God's compassionate divine intervention on behalf of His creations. Origen strongly believed in God's perfect benevolence and love that He extended himself for mankind's salvation. The paper explains that Origen negated the belief that God created people who were intrinsically predisposed to evil or good or both. If people were created predisposed to evil or good, this would signify God as an unjust creator, who would bestow greater things to only some, while others would receive less or bad things. This would refute God as just and good which is why Origen believed that God made all people with the equality for good or evil.

From the Paper:

"Origen did not explain why these souls descended to various levels but he is adamant on the theory that whatever the incentive behind the fall, it clearly came as a consequence of their own free will and was not due to any divine intervention from God. Origen persisted that these souls fell due to what they did and the choice they made and their souls fell to different situations, according to the varying measure of their impertinence to God. The blame lay squarely on the shoulders of each soul and judged by a spiritual tribunal according to its compliance to God."
