This paper examines a metaphor for organizations. This is based on a text book about organizations, which examines different metaphors for organizations as different ways of understanding them or working with different aspects of them.

"The metaphor I have developed for an organization is that of the organization as an educator. This may seem odd, but this idea expresses one part of what the organization is about - it educates us about our culture and life within it. Just as schools educate, an organization or a corporation is also a force within the community that fosters change and growth, and as such, it is an educator. In fact, any institution that imparts knowledge and makes people within in more a part of their society, or more knowledgeable about aspects of their society, is potentially an educator."
