The author points out that occupational stress not only hurts the individual, but also can severely damage the entire organization through lower productivity, increased absenteeism, and the eventual loss of the investment the organization has made into the occupational development of an individual or group. The paper states that a manager must be aware of the offerings available to workers in the way of compensation when a worker is forced to leave the job due to occupational stress cause injuries or illness.
