Nutrition and Fitness Program

This paper discusses the characteristics of a workplace nutrition and fitness program. It particularly examines the cost/benefit analysis in that gains in workplace productivity, reduction of sick day usage, and reduced benefit costs can be achieved through the implementation of such a program. The paper suggests that the costs of the program, relative to the cost savings achieved, are minimal.

Employers have found that they can substantially improve performance as well as overall employee motivation by offering nutrition and fitness programs as part of their comprehensive benefit programs: "motivating individual employees to change health-related behaviors in a health promotion program ...is necessary for ensuring the program's organizational-level success"(Harrison & Liska par.2)."
