The Constitutional Convention met May 25 through September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia's State House for the purposed of revising the Articles of Confederation which were not strong enough to unite and govern a growing nation. After much debate and compromise, delegates abandoned the articles and drafted a new constitution. Although imperfect and often misunderstood today, the document provides a solid framework for the American government.
