"Like most state governments, Minnesota's is dominated by the two major political parties in the United States, the Democrats and the Republicans. But unlike Democrats in most states, Minnesota Democrats are members of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. The DFL currently controls sixty-six seats in the Minnesota House of Representatives, while the Republicans control sixty-eight seats. The DFL currently holds a five-seat majority in the Minnesota Senate, and the current governor, Tim Pawlenty, is a Republican.
