943 words (approx. 3.8 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2006 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the U.S. government's attempt to curb Microsoft's computer software monopoly. The paper makes several arguments against the breakup of Microsoft, suggesting that the free market does a better job at controlling monopolies than do governments and that not all monopolies are necessarily bad for people and businesses.

From the Paper:

"Bill Gates is now considered the richest man on earth. As a young nerd, he and some friends worked in his parents' garage to come up with a software system that would quintuple and then some, the number of people gaining access to the Internet and all the thousands of web sites. He called the company "Microsoft" and the ultimate browser software called "Windows". As potential competitors entered the field, Microsoft sought to protect its market share, and did so, according to the Federal Government, in restraint of trade."
