Michaelangelo di Lodovico di Lionardo Buonarroti Simoni, Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, engineer and poet was born in Caprese, a small village in the mountains above Florence in March 6, 1475. At the time of his birth his father was Florentine Commissioner of Caprese, an honorary position. His father's family was ancient but impoverished.
