Yet his work not only has endured, but has had a great influence on the arts during his lifetime and for generations after his death. His reputation as a creative genius is secure.Michaelangelo di Lodovico di Lionardo Buonarroti Simoni, Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, engineer and poet was born in Caprese, a small village in the mountains above Florence in March 6, 1475. At the time of his birth his father was Florentine Commissioner of Caprese, an honorary position. His father's family was ancient but impoverished.
