Mentorship in nursing has been recently established in the literature as providing an effective and cost- -and- resource-conscious strategy that can promote and alleviate multiple problems associated in integrating new nurses into an established health care environment.

"The majority of work in mentorship among new nurses has been in the areas of generational theory, in which the older nurse mentors the younger nurse. Multiple beneficial outcomes tend to come from this relationship, including incentives for the older nurse (e.g.: peer respect, passage of knowledge, etc.) and for the younger nurse (e.g.: acquisition of experience and knowledge, emotional connectivity to the established nursing community, etc.).
