Mental Illness

Paper Summary:

This paper first defines and describes the community at hand and then gives a reason for this selection. The paper offers a description of the issue and background factors which contribute to the problem. After data from research has been looked at in all of the above, possible community nursing interventions and teaching strategies are discussed, all the while using Orem's nursing model to describe the community, its health problem(s) and said proposed interventions.

"As the fields of science, medicine, and psychology have all grown, along with the nursing arenas within each, with this growth has also come a better understanding of various maladies or dilemmas that may arise within each. One of the most costly financially, emotionally and physically of the many problems which our society and healthcare professionals face, is that of mental illness. From the thousands of mentally ill individuals who make up a bulk of the homeless or jobless population, to those who lead seemingly "normal" lives, with careers and acquaintances, the number of those who suffer from severe mental illness has never been higher."
