Paper Summary:
This is a comparison paper that discusses the differences in thought between two philosophers; Karl Marx and Georg Hegel. While one believed society ultimately bore the responsibility for mankind, the other believed that it was through social interactions that man would evolve. Hegel also believed that it was only through this type of freedom that man would be able to explore his own reasoning.
From the Paper:
"Both Karl Marx and Georg Hegel were great thinkers whose legacies are apparent in economic, social and political realms of life. Hegel was a man whose primary focus was related to reason and freedom. He believed that history was a progression of more freedom on a continuum between greater freedom and lesser freedom. He believed that the mind evolved because of the spirit, as opposed to material wealth. In addition to this progression of freedom, Hegel felt as though society had a moral contract related to man's duty to mankind. Marx, like Hegel, also believed that man had a moral obligation to the rest of society."
