Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the importance of effective leadership and management styles. It looks at the need for companies to accept and incorporate change, the need to establish firm organizational goals and objectives, and the different types of organizational structures. The paper then studies the traditional, top-down style of management of a CEO at a fictional "XYZ" company. This is followed by an analysis of the problems this type of management engenders, and a discussion of the advantages of more people-oriented management styles.

"Management styles have always been debated. Confucius, in 500 BC, tried to persuade the feudal kingdoms of ancient China that an effective leader could be humane, benevolent and just; and, still win the respect and admiration of his subjects as the ruler of a prosperous kingdom. Management concepts have been continuously evolving in the last fifty years. This has created a skeptical employee. Often, management styles evolve within the organization; occasionally however, a change in management style is forced. It might be the result of unanticipated occurrences. The environment in which a company operates is also constantly changing. Change is good. A company that will accept change for betterment of its goals and aims often comes out ahead of the competition."
