From the Paper:
"The field of nursing has always proved to be challenging for men to enter. Society has a general mindset that men become doctors and women become nurses. In the past few decades society has come to accept females in the role of doctor but that had to do with females reaching to "better" themselves and was considered an accomplishment. Unfortunately men becoming nurses were at first considered settling for less than they could be. In addition there was a mindset that make nurses only entered the field if they were gay, because that made it acceptable to do a females work. As the years marched forward and more men proved to be competent and capable nurses the stigmas began to fall away and the acceptance began."
