"Shakespeare used elements of the supernatural in creating his tragic play Macbeth. The supernatural and supernatural elements can be defined as unearthly, otherworldly powers, powers that go beyond the laws of nature. This essay will discuss the use of the elements of the supernatural found in the play Macbeth.
The play opens with the three witches, also referred to as the weird sisters, who are planning to meet with Macbeth on the heath. Coleridge, in Shakespearean Criticism, suggests that the first appearance of the weird sisters is used as a keynote of the character of the whole play in that Macbeth believes the witches have supernatural powers of information (60). In scene II, King Duncan tells Ross to find Macbeth and confer on him the title of thane of Cawdor. Scene III opens with the witches preparing a (...)"
