"Love is a subject given great consideration in human history, being the focus of much literature and philosophical discussion alike, as well as other disciplines. The subject is vitally important to human beings and is the source of both a great deal of joy and a great deal of pain in human lives. Love is a form of self-expression, but it can be seen as being of a different order of self-expression from what the individual needs in order to gain self-esteem and feel fulfilled as an individual, though this may be involved. Love should be unselfish and should be more concerned with the needs, esteem, and fulfillment of another person, and this in turn provides the same feelings and achievements to the lover. It is self-expression directed toward one particular end and object rather than a general desire for self-expression as an end in itself."
