Liliana Heker's "The Stolen Party"
An analysis of the transformation of the character of Rosaura in Liliana Heker's story "The Stolen Party."
1,093 words (approx. 4.4 pages) | 1 source | 2000 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper looks at the symbols that Heker uses in her story, "The Stolen Party" which allow the reader to see how Rosaura is transformed and how her attitudes about social class structure change as a result of her experiences at the "Stolen Party."

From the Paper:

"Some of the symbols that the writer uses are the monkey, the magician, Senora Ines' two bills, and even the title of the story, "Stolen Party," to show how the character Rosaura believes that she is the equal of the other children at the birthday party of her employer's daughter, but she has a rude awakening when she finds that she is considered to be nothing more than a smart little servant girl. The reader sees a sudden transformation of the character from an eager, self-confident girl to a distrusting, maligned young woman."
