"Some of the symbols that the writer uses are the monkey, the magician, Senora Ines' two bills, and even the title of the story, "Stolen Party," to show how the character Rosaura believes that she is the equal of the other children at the birthday party of her employer's daughter, but she has a rude awakening when she finds that she is considered to be nothing more than a smart little servant girl. The reader sees a sudden transformation of the character from an eager, self-confident girl to a distrusting, maligned young woman."
