As such, he believed in the innate ability of people to govern themselves and he rejected traditional notions of the divine authority of monarchs to rule their subjects. Locke posited that governments could only truly govern with the consent of the governed and that therefore democracy was the only suitable form of government. Locke achieved lasting fame in American history ... "
