In Canada, it is against the law for employers to use intimidation tactics and harassment in an effort to discourage employees from joining a union. Organizations are prohibited from discriminating and demoting workers based on their union membership. Under federal and provincial labour laws, employers are permitted to express their opinions so long as they do not commit illegal labour practices ("Your Rights", 2005, para. 4). "
