"Japanese women who have studied abroad and achieved a command of English hope to use it in their careers, but they find that overwhelmingly Japanese companies only give foreign postings to male employees," Nakase said. Japanese job seekers with work experience and basic clerical skills find strong demand from Japanese firms that seek to save money by hiring locally and which find Japanese workers easier to communicate with than local Hong Kong staff. Jobs on offer are typically clerical, with more challenging opportunities -- and better pay -- offered to those with good computer skills or command of English or Chinese."
