"In terms of services and benefits, Italian women tend to be better off than American women. For example, working women in Italy are entitled to day.care services and maternity leaves which are unheard of in the United States. Nevertheless, the basic role of Italian women remains one in which they are subservient to men. Thus, women in Italy are expected to be content with roles as housewives and mothers. If they seek employment outside the home, the women generally receive a lower wage rate than men.


The factors which make Italian women different from American women can be found in women throughout Europe as well. In Europe, as in the United States, women have traditionally been found in domestic roles. In both Europe and the United States, these traditional values have recently been challenged by..."
