Both are stories about women who are unhappy and have illness, yet more similarities can be found in these two short stories. The characters in the play are created to portray life of Chinese women. The two stories are similar in the importance of families, their madness (tuberculosis), and the structure of the stories written by Eileen Chang and Ding Ling. Both stories show that family is important and play different roles in the story."
