# 25672
Israeli Culture
This paper discusses that, although Americans have a particular image of the Middle East, it does not really apply to Israel, which is a more Westernized nation.
1,975 words (approx. 7.9 pages) | 7 sources | MLA | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper explains that Israelis and Americans are more alike than different for the most part, though this does not mean that Americans understand the Israeli political point of view or the problems facing that country. The paper reviews the expansion of television, the communication structure and the use of English. The author feels that the constant threat of war is the defining issue for Israeli society and details the history of the Israeli-Arab relationship.

From the Paper:

"Consider the way the American influence is seen on Israeli television. An analysis of the programming on Israeli television shows a strong American influence, as is true in other areas of popular culture as well. Perhaps as much as 70 to 80 percent of the programs shown in Israel are American. According to Alan Rosenthal, a documentary filmmaker and lecturer at the Hebrew University, the American influence is especially strong on Channel 2, the Hebrew-language channel, where one can find a Hebrew version of "Wheel of Fortune" and several talk shows that imitate American shows like Oprah, which would have been impossible a few years ago."
