This paper answers the following questions about the Islamic religion. What are the central beliefs of Islam, and how are they reflected in the "Five Pillars"? Which of the Five Pillars do you feel would be easiest to fulfill, and which would be the most challenging? It uses four primary and secondary sources to answer these questions.
From the Paper:
"The Islamic religion is one based upon the worship of one god, has a central figure as its "founder", and a single written work defining it's central principles, parables, and words from God. The core of Islam is based around the Five Pillars of Islam: Faith in one God and the legitimacy of Muhammad as the prophet of Islam, daily prayers, concern for the less-fortunate (and giving of charity to them), self-purification by fasting, and pilgrimage to Mecca for those who can do so. These Pillars are the daily and constant foundation of Islamic / Muslim life. While there are many other rules of life encompassed within the Koran, Islamic law is derived almost entirely from interpretations of the Koran for example, and competing interpretations also have been known to cause conflicting views of the meaning of the Five Pillars and of Islamic law.
