# 54871
Islam
An insight into Islam according to three literary works.
1,183 words (approx. 4.7 pages) | 3 sources | MLA | 2004 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper examines the image of Islam as portrayed in two books written by Bernard Lewis and one book written by Karen Armstrong. The paper discusses the negative perception of Islam that is prevalent in the West, asserting that Lewis's literature is biased to this effect. The paper presents Armstrong's work as well-researched and unbiased and consequently portraying a more positive image of Islam.

From the Paper:

"Karen Armstrong's picture of Islam is much more positive in nature than the one painted by Lewis in his two books. Her book does a great deal of justice to a religion that never sanctified warfare and never allowed terrorism on earth. What makes her book appear more plausible in its research is the fact that it is based on real experience of the religion. The author has made an effort to study Koran and understand its teachings unlike Lewis who chose to rely on a handful of sketchy sources."
