"The topic that was selected for research was "the history of the slinky". This topic was selected because of the worldwide attachment to this to over many years, and because of personal curiosity on the subject. Outside of the ELRC search engines were explored. These included Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask.com. These search engines were selected because of their tremendous popularity across the globe, and a desire to discover the reasons for this fascination. To begin the exploration of the selected topic, the phrase, "the history of the slinky" was typed in the search box. On the Yahoo! Search engine there were 665,000 results. In the first ten results listed on the opening page there were information sites that discussed the history and inventors of the slinky ("History"; "Information") as well as sites that were intended as sales information sites from the toy manufacturer ("Welcome").
