"The Harlem Birth Right Project was intended to resolve the stereotypical assertion that the infant mortality rate among African American women is higher because of deviant lifestyles. Therefore, public health programs are formed for all African-American women, when only a few are in need of their support. The issue remains that because of this initial assertion surrounding the pregnancy of African-American women, they do not receive the types of public health care that may be needed during their pregnancies, and this then creates a higher instance of infant mortality in the African-American population."
