Mental health professionals have identified numerous psychological disorders. This paper explains that bipolar disorder is an example that not only intrigues specialists but also the general public. It shows that with an understanding of its definition, symptoms, types and severity, methods of diagnosis, causes, prevalence, and treatment help to dispel any misunderstandings about this condition.
From the Paper:
"As already mentioned, the major symptoms of bipolar disorder are characterized by marked swings in mood, ranging from highs to lows, referred to as mania and depression respectively. Shifts in mood correspond with changes in energy levels. Oftentimes an interlude of ordinary mood occurs between the manic and depressive states. Naturally nearly all have experienced feelings of intense happiness and sadness. Bipolar differs in that moods are extreme, prolonged, cyclic, and interfere with normal functioning."
