"Texas was hit quite hard by the recent hurricanes, Katrina and Rita. While it was not affected as devastatingly as Louisiana, there was still much damage. With so much damage and loss, there was a great need for aid, as well as many adverse effects. This section shall look at what churches and communities did as far as aid goes, how gas prices were effected, as well as how unemployment and housing proved to be further problems. Many churches throughout Texas aided in the hurricane-relief efforts. One such occurrence is noted here: "The disciples in the International Church of Christ in Texas are opening their homes to the disciples and friends in the Houston area who are evacuating their city due to the incoming hurricane Rita" (Asaad & Taliaferro, 2005).
