The CRC requires states to protect children from discrimination on the basis of their parents' or legal guardians' status. Furthermore, the United Nations has additional laws regarding discrimination by association. A significant example of discrimination by association occurs in cases dealing with parents' HIV/AIDS status. However, there are even more types of discrimination by association which are common throughout the world."
