"In the last several years, the functions of the human resources department has been in an evolutionary stage (McMahan, Mohrman & Lawler, 1996, p.11). Researchers Gary McMahan, Susan Mohrman and Edward Lawler report that there is an indication that the positions once believed to have purpose within the average human resources department are being deleted and that human resources as a whole is beginning to address new functions of support for the business world (McMahan, Mohrman & Lawler, 1996, p.11). Research indicates that a growing number of businesses today are discovering that while human resources has an important role within a company's structure, it is not the identical role that was evident only a few years previously."
