Following this introduction, the homeless in the United States are identified demographically. The causes of homelessness are then examined. Following the examination of the causes of the phenomenon, actual and proposed solutions to the problem are reviewed and evaluated. In the final discussion, the effects on the general population of the plight of the homeless are considered, and a policy action to deal with the problem is recommended.
