The Australian heritage Commission identifies nine main themes for heritage resources, each of which includes a host of sub themes. The main themes are the evolution of the environment, the indigenous populations, the development of local, regional, and state economy, the construction of settlements and towns, Australian work environments, education, government, cultural, and phases of life. Within each theme are sub themes such as historical people involved, the evolution of the main theme, and historical references to main points within each theme (Australian Heritage Commission, 2001, 3)."
