And then we (here in the relative safety of the United States, where we are unlikely to be the victims of a terrible tropical virus ? despite the many thrillers and movies that suggest otherwise) think uneasily about the animal-like viruses, so small that for centuries their existence had to be guessed at and extrapolated rather than known."
