" Henry IV Part I is the second of eight plays that William Shakespeare wrote chronicling the conflicts of the last six Plantagenets who ruled England. Written approximately in 1597, the play focuses on England at the very beginning of the 15th century, when the country was engaged in a series of civil wars, along with the Crusades to free the Holy Lands. In order to grasp the full meaning of the play, it is first necessary to review the story itself, and to see its minor deviations from the true historical account of the events that transpired.
King Richard II, who became King of England at the age of 10, exiled his cousin Bolingbroke in hopes of becoming an absolute monarch. This was not to be the case, as one year later the exiled Bolingbroke returned to England with a powerful army, aided by the powerful Percy family, which consisted of the Earl (...)"
