This paper explains that the key to making new hires become productive employees in the least amount of time is by getting the foreman of the firm to follow a process called 'performance management'. The paper then explains what performance management means and the components of performance management. The paper also describes studies that found links between employee involvement and productivity and concludes with the finding that when employees are given respect, measured freedom and some type of involvement in the company,they become more productive and happy workers.

"First, you must clearly state the role and responsibility of the job to the new hire. This means have a clear and effective job description for the person. Make certain they know exactly what the job role entails. This allows you to discuss the skills and abilities the job requires and compare with the new hire skills, knowledge, and ability. Too many times, a foreman assumes that a person knows the job and already has the skills."
