"In recent years, globalization has emerged as a hot topic of discussion. The following paper will begin first by outlining some of the common charges leveled against globalization by its most vehement critics. From there, the paper will outline some of the counter-arguments that can and should be put forward in defense of a phenomenon that is, in any event, inevitable. Ultimately, what should emerge from this discussion is a recognition that globalization is not the incorrigible "bogey-man" it is commonly portrayed as being. Rather, it is a sophisticated social and economic (and political) process whereby countries are drawn together, national borders become more fluid, state governments become (at least in economic matters) less efficacious, and people and businesses find themselves able to draw upon a world-wide marketplace and a world-wide labor force, respectively. This "shrinking" of the world does have negative affects."
