Paper Summary:

This paper supports Michel-Rolph Trouillot's reminders concerning the weaknesses of theories to refer to globalization as unprecedented, permanent, or to see the past as made up of separate entities. The paper makes reference to Szeman's discussion and how social scientists are most given to seeing globalization as 'Real'.

"Michel-Rolph Trouillot's paper opens in a statement of, "globalization is a fuzzy word", leading on to a discussion that makes the reader see the reality of past phenomena of something close to globalization, in different historical experiences of imperialism. Academic culture has been concerned by cultural globalization in a manner that most people who lived in `globalized' areas are not. He reviews the general argument of globalization, since the late 1970s, whereby a flow of capital, goods, ideas and people have crossed national boundaries more easily."
